Review: The Vindys – Bugs
Well, here’s the sad news—we were totally late in covering The Vindys’s latest release ‘Bugs’ but nonetheless, the beauty of great music is that it never expires. Released just a couple of weeks back, and the songwriting is brilliantly written, easy to digest, and incredibly fun.
Right now we’re enjoying pretty much everything The Vindys has to offer (check their Spotify down below), from their music to their branding, and even the art direction behind the entire project. Give it a spin for yourself to see what all the hype is about and discover your new favorite song. Enjoy!
A Dirty Dozen with the Vindys
1. Tell us a little about your latest release. What might a fan or listener not grab the first or second time they listen through? Are there any hidden nuggets you put in the material or that only diehard fans might find?
Ed: I think the album is unique because it’s stylistically diverse yet still sounds like the same group of people made the record. We all have a lot of different influences and I feel like the album is a great confluence of us all coming together.
2. What got you into music, and can you tell us about the moment you realized you wanted to be a musician?
John: Growing up, my parents always had music on in the house and when we would drive in the car. My dad is a guitarist, so I was very aware of many of the “guitar heroes” from a young age along with a lot of different styles of music. The first live show I attended was Van Halen in 2004. I was just really getting into playing rock guitar when I went to that show. I think the instant that Eddie Van Halen ran on stage turned a switch that immediately made me realize I wanted to do this for the rest of my life.
Ed: I’m not sure how, but I was obsessed with the Beatles at an early age. Combine that with a drumming father and all I’ve wanted to do since was make music.

10 DAILY RECOMMENDATIONS FROM THE WORLDWIDE UNDER FOR THE DEMANDING EAR # 432
Bugs is a sensual proposal and very well located in what you need. The Vindys offers us a very passionate journey, made to lose you in the perfect intimacy of the night, with a voice that takes us from zero to one hundred with the indietronic sensation, which mixes the power of electronic elements towards a very heavy intensity level. , which is described in the rock strength of this American song, which sounds like a future and passion that we do not understand because it is total chaos, but we love to feel it because it shows the absolute nature that it has in its depth. It is the night in any city that absorbs you, so enjoy this sonic gem.
Vindys shine and evolve on sophomore album with big vocals, searing guitar, jazzy swagger
As The Vindys finished work on their new album last year, the pandemic was starting to change the world.
The impact was felt when the band's lead singer Jackie Popovec stepped into a recording studio in March 2020. She stripped off her face covering and belted out her vocals into a sanitized microphone to cut the album's final track.
"We were very mindful and COVID conscious," she recalled. "We were doing Zoom meetings and everything.
The Vindys releases their sophomore album The Bugs
The Vindys is a Youngstown-based rock band that will make you dance with every next release. On July 31st the band released their sophomore album The Bugs that took 4 years to get out there. The group is already at work on its third album, with a hope to release it in the summer of 2022.
The Vindys is led by Jackie Popovec that hypnotizes with her vocals and magnetism. Her sound is reminiscent of Amy Winehouse and Adele, but she has this unique timbre that won’t let you confuse her with somebody else. For the last album, Popovec wrote most of the music and lyrics and then brought them to the band for arrangement. This time she and Deak collaborated more on the songwriting, and Bugs is an example of that common work.
The Vindys – Bugs (Review)
The discovery of a huge beehive above the bed that could at any time have fallen over one in the seam. That's what inspired the indie-rock song Bugs from The Vindys . Personally, it creeps all over me when I hear the singer sing about the wasps that were literally all over the walls. Although the experience was probably traumatic, the result was a really good song and in fact also the first single from the group's album of the same name.

Who are The Vindys? They are an American 5-piece from Ohio. The pop-rock band is fronted by soulful singer Jackie Popovec, whose immaculate vocals and charming personality is complemented by the brilliance of the musicians surrounding her, that is: John Anthony (guitar), Ed Davis (drums), Matt Jackson (bass) and Rick Deak (guitar).
Musically, Bugs is an exhibition of The Vindys’ genre-blurring approach. You’ll notice influences from soul, indie rock and electronic pop. Highlighted above is the title-track, a groovy track that typifies the band’s style.
The Vindys Prove They’re A National Talent
We may be bias, but Northeast Ohio act The Vindys are one of the tightest and talented acts on the national stage. The rockers have long produced soulful and exquisite tracks, but with their latest album, they prove to be a magnetic force of sonic mastery. Fronted by the confident vocal powerhouse Jackie Popovec, who reminds listeners of the likes of Alice Merton and even Adele, the band are all exceptionally trained. The talent is palpable with their title track “Bugs”. While listeners have heard a lot of jazz and soul influence in their past catalogue, with “Bugs”, The Vindys go full on rock with a track showing there is little the band is not capable of. They have a firm grasp of genre with a depth of talent that is only beginning to be explored.
